The inlet pipe has the exact bend that mufflers had from 1928 through March 1929. The internal pipe has a quantity of 172, 1/4" porting holes & 3 baffles, which is the correct baffling system to create that original muffler sound, and also eliminate engine back pressure.
Independent testing with a dynamo test machine (volume 5, Number 1 of Secrets of Speed, July 1995) shows the original design mufflers (A5230ARORG, A5230ORG and A5230ORG/SS) increased power by 3.8 horsepower, or a 7.8% increase over the inexpensive muffler (A5230). This is because the inexpensive muffler does not use the correct diameter pipe or the correct internal baffles; therefore, flow of the exhaust gases from the muffler is restricted, which will affect horsepower.
